Lincoln Henderson was the Brown-Forman master distiller for almost 40 years until he retired. Now along with his son and grandson they’ve started the Louisville Distilling Company. Their main product is Angel’s Envy, a bourbon that’s finished in used port barrels. Since its release AE has been a hot product on the market and last year they released a limited ‘barrel proof’ expression to critical acclaim. Now reports are coming out the that this May/June the guys at Louisville Distilling will be releasing a rye whiskey. Like the AE bourbon that is finished in port barrels the rye will be finished in used rum barrels.
Bottled at 50% ABV the retail price will be around $80. A little on the steep end but somewhat consistent with the price of other ‘premium’ ryes on the market. California, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas will be the markets getting the Angel’s Envy Rye.
If Angel’s Envy has shown me anything it’s that the Hendersons take great pride in their product. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on some. I’ll have a review up later this year.
