Master Distiller Emeritus at Buffalo Trace, Elmer T. Lee, passed away today at the age 93. Bourbon fans will no doubt remember Lee by his namesake single barrel bourbon. But Lee is also responsible for starting the single barrel trend when he released Blanton’s in 1984. After his retirement in 1985 Buffalo Trace honored Lee with his own line of bourbon. Through out his illustrious life Lee was bestowed various honors for his work including being inducted into the Bourbon Hall of Fame in 2001 and being awarded Whisky Advocate’s and Whiskey Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Elmer T. Lee single barrel bourbon has always been a favorite of mine and as a whiskey enthusiast I have to say Mr. Lee’s mark on the industry will be felt for generations to come. Rest In Peace.
