Lincoln Henderson (1938 – 2013)

Lincoln_Henderson_angels_envyThe American whiskey scene was struck a blow with the news of Angel’s Envy master distiller, Lincoln Henderson’s passing.  Mr. Henderson was a true legend when it came to American whiskey. As the master distiller of Brown-Forman he helped shape the bourbon scene by developing brands such as Woodford Reserve, Gentleman Jack and Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel. After spending nearly 40 years at Brown-Forman Mr. Henderson retired in 2004.  Two years later, along with his son Wes and grandson Kyle, the Henderson’s started Angel’s Envy. Not satisfied with the same old song and dance the Henderson’s began experimenting with various finishes on their whiskey. The result was a beautifully crafted bourbon finished in port wine barrels.

What made Mr. Henderson such a legend was not just his impressive tenure at Brown-Forman but that late in his life he still had the drive and desire to create something new and exciting. People like that don’t come around too often and Mr. Henderson was truly a master of his craft. Mr. Henderson was an inaugural member of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame and the recipient of Malt Advocate’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
